Honoring Our Full Humanity

Honoring Our Full Humanity

At Saint Andrew’s you’ll hear the expression, “a safe place to walk each other home,” mentioned from time to time.  If you don’t hear it, we certainly hope you will get a sense of it among those gathered.

Worship for us is a balance between the beauty and sacredness of ancient liturgy that  is practiced in such a way as to hold space for the fullness of our present humanity.

By the fullness of humanity,
we mean that perhaps you may hear a little chatter from the youngest among us
and those worshipping smile in affirmation.
Here and there one of those younger ones may wander
into the chancel near the altar to check things out
             - the more the merry around the altar models the priest.
Perhaps a member is a little sensory sensitive
            - here you can find noise reducing headphones if you forgot yours that day.
It could be you are a little out of sorts and feeling a little emotional on a Sunday morning.
       Perhaps some tears surface.

Tears of joy or sadness, and those in between, are all a part of life,
AND they are all welcome here!
Here you will find all sorts of couples, families, widows, divorcees, bachelors,
people with different political leanings, races, and orientation.

What brings us together are our aspirations to love God, neighbor, and self.

We aren’t perfect at it,
and we keep practicing together day by day,

week by week, year by year,

while celebrating our common humanity in all its unique diversity,                                                                                                       seeking to honor our Baptismal Covenant.

Together we encounter moments of God's grace
through which we catch a glimpse of the future kingdom

for which we are already bound.

With our body and souls sustained,

we return to the world rejoicing in the power of the Spirit,

ready to continue loving God, our neighbors, and ourselves.
